ABOUT: CIBER IN SIBERIA

The Center for International Business Education and Research in the School of International Business at Omsk State University (OmSU-CIBER) was established in 2002 as the first academic resource center in the field of international business in West Siberia, Russia. It serves faculty, students, business executives and professionals seeking advice or direction in international areas.

The mission of the OmSU-CIBER is to provide top-level English language education, research, training and assistance to local businessmen on issues of importance to international relations and global competitiveness. The long-term goal is to provide the emerging business community of the Omsk region with the international education, language training, and research capacities of the Omsk State university, as well as other universities and international organizations across the country and worldwide. To reach this goal the OmSU-CIBER organizes a variety of activities to advance the study and teaching of international business and to support applied research on Siberian and Russian competitiveness in the global marketplace.

The OmSU-CIBER is playing a vital role in the growing internationalization of the School of International Business at Omsk State University curriculum through the development of international business courses and premier programs such as the New York Program and the Sydney Program. Since 1998 the School of International Business has become the leading academic institution in the region providing the students from Omsk and Northern Kazakhstan with a unique opportunity to study contemporary economics and management science in English.

The OmSU-CIBER is interested in developing partnerships with well-established and academically recognized Western institutions, preferably those with an interest in establishing an academic and research base in emerging market economies. Some of the projects we wish to explore include establishing a joint business center, developing a local market research institute, implementing distance learning programs, enhancing curriculum development, facilitating student internship/exchange programs, and providing programs for executives. Our aim is to explore alternative, mutually beneficial scenarios that would enhance the educational experience of the institutions involved.
